The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Союз Советских Социалистических Республик) also known as the Soviet Union, USSR, SSSR, and CCCP was a Superpower in the Cold War (along with the United States) and a Great Power in World War II. It was a Communist state that followed the ideas of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin. The Soviet Union consisted of the present-day countries of: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbajian, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgzstan, Tajikistan, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The USSR fell on December 25, 1991, giving way to many new, independent countries such as Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, etc...
